Other Fishing Locations Near Inverness

Fishing at Loch Ness

Why not keep an eye out for a rare ‘Nessie’ sighting while fishing for ferox trout, brown trout, sea trout and the famed Atlantic salmon in its gloriously mysterious waters.

Guided fishing tours can be a useful way to start if you haven’t fished in the loch previously, with all the equipment and tuition you could need also coming in handy if you’re a relative newcomer to the enjoyable relaxing pastime.

Experience an unforgettable few hours or an entire day, as you tick off one of the world’s most iconic fishing areas, with life jackets, rods and bait all included with your package alongside the required licensing to fish on the loch.

If you’re looking to set up camp on Loch Ness yourself, then the man-made canal sections of the Caledonia Canal do not require a permit when fishing for brown trout and non-migratory freshwater fish, while free bank fishing for brown trout with light tackled is also permitted as long as you have the landowner’s permission.

Fishing at Loch Oich

If you’re happy venturing a little further afield beyond Loch Ness, Loch Oich is reachable in just over an hour from your lodge accommodation at Ness Side.

Once you’ve acquired your permit to fish here, you can enjoy sole salmon fishing rights on the Loch Oich stretch, with use of a boat and a fishing cabin ensuring you can spend many hours on the loch when adopting the safe release of any fish caught here.

This scenic, tree-lined setting is a great choice when looking to fish for trout and catch-up with friends and family in the process, with some sections of the River Oich and Rich Garry seeing trout fishing possible without paying fees.

Fishing at Loch Dochfour

A 10-minute drive from your accommodation at Ness Side takes you beyond the upper reaches of Loch Ness and onto Loch Dochfour, from where various beats are available as a renowned site for salmon and sea trout fishing that takes you up towards our private access spot when residing at Holm Lodge on the River Ness.

The long season, clear waters and lack of high-water levels here mean you can look to catch fish as early as February and return to visit us at Ness Side right through to October, with our fishing lodge with private swim accommodation the ideal base for enjoying high-quality fishing when adhering to the ‘catch and release’ policy.

It’s advised when fishing at Loch Dochfour that 14 & 15ft double-hand rods are used for an optimum day’s fishing on the beats, with full floating lines preferred during the summer months and a higher-density line through the spring and autumn.
