Forth Canal Walking Route

Walking and Cycling in Falkirk

A visit to Inchyra offers guests who love a good walk the chance to enjoy a variety of locations, scenery and terrain. With canal paths, country parks, coastline and castles all featuring, you really are spoiled for choice, no matter what your level, and there’s plenty of opportunity to cycle, too.

The Falkirk area has over 300 miles of paths and rights of way for walking and cycling – known as the Falkirk Paths Network. Many of these paths have been sign posted in partnership with local landowners and community groups and you’ll find some nice links between the walks and places you wanted to visit anyway.

The Falkirk Wheel is impressive and if you’re planning check it out, you’ll find these walks nearby.

For those a little more adventurous, why not try a section of the John Muir Way, one of Scotland’s great trails and fully marked for walkers and cyclists. The full coast-to-coast, 134-mile trail is there for anyone who fancies the challenge! - otherwise, the two most local sections run from Linlithgow to Falkirk and then Falkirk to Kilsyth. You can take in many of the area’s main attractions along the way of both, including Blackness Castle, Bon'ess and Kinneil Railway, Callendar House, and sections of the Antonine Wall – but at 8.5 miles and 13 miles respectively, you may prefer to choose a bite-sized piece of the trail, starting from the attraction itself. Callendar Estate, the Antonine Wall are good examples and The Helix, home of the famous Kelpies, is great for a local outing with options for children.
