Gorge Walking in the Lake District

Gorge walking, or ghyll scrambling as it is more commonly known in Cumbria, is geared around exploring the path of a mountain stream that has cut its way down the hill and having fun on the features created by the combination of rock and water. It can be exhilarating, challenging and often beautiful.

Scrambling is an accurate way of describing how participants climb over rocks as well as wading through the water, but regardless of terminology, this is all about going against the flow of the water on a journey up the stream, sometimes jumping into pools, or climbing up and swimming under waterfalls. It’s like a wet obstacle course that varies, depending on where you are, but you’ll definitely see the Lake District from a new perspective!
