Walking Routes in the
Cairngorms National Park
Situated in the scenic Cairngorms National Park, Lochanhully Resort offers plenty of options for walking and hiking, whether you’re looking for a gentle stroll or the challenge of a mountain climb. Recommended walks include circumnavigating the stunning Lochan an Eilein featuring island castle ruins. Cairn Gorm mountian should be on everyone’s bucket list. On a clear day you should expect to experience breathtaking views of Ben Macdui, the 2nd highest mountain in the UK.
The Speyside Way
One of four official long distance trekking routes in Scotland, Speyside Way starts at Buckie on the scenic Moray coastline and follows the winding River Spey through Aviemore - ending at the edge of the Grampian Mountains, covering some 137 kilometres in total. Dogs are welcome along much of the route, with an abundance of wildlife and picture-perfect nature spots making for a wonderful full or part walk through The Highlands during your stay.
Cairn Gorm Mountain
Cairn Gorm Mountain offers a challenging climb with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The mountain is one of the highest in the National Park and takes around 5 hours to complete. The most popular route to the summit starts at the Cairn Gorm ski centre, the are a number of routes to choose from making it easy for beginners through to more experienced climbers.
Loch an Eilein
Loch an Eilein, surrounded by the pines of Rothiemurchus Forest is one of Scotlands most popular short walks. Make sure to take your camera with you to caputre a ruined castle on the middle of the Loch. 3 miles long, enjoy the walk at your own pace as you take in the dramatic views and the forest wildlife.
Carrbridge Circular
This short, easy walk takes in the village's packhorse bridge and offers great views of the surrounding countryside. The circular routes takes around 45 minutes to complete and is suitable for families with young children. It's also a popular route for guests staying with dogs.
Ben Macdui
The 2nd highest munro in Scotland, Ben Macdui offers 360 views of the Cairngorms. A tricky Munro, it can be hard to navigate, even for the most experienced of walkers. The mountain takes advantage of 650m start in the Cairngorm plateau. Look out for the giants of the Lairig Ghru, Carn Toul and Braeriach and if you're lucky, you could spot golden eagles.
The Dava Way
One of Scotland's great trails for both walking and cycling. This long-distance trail runs from Forres to Grantown-on-Spey and passes through stunning Scottish scenery. The route is well signposted and takes walkers through forests, farmland and along the banks of the River Findhorn. Relatively unknown, enjoy views over the Moray Firth as far north as Sutherland, while the skyline to the south is dominated by the Cromdale Hills and the Cairngorm Mountains.
