DISCOVER ABERFOYLE
Aberfoyle is a small village with a huge reputation. Known as the Gateway to the Trossachs, it sits at the heart of some of Scotland’s most glorious countryside with mountains, lochs, forests, and even castles and distilleries, all present and correct. It also provides the centre point for a stunning array of lochs: Loch Ard, Loch Chon, Loch Arklet and Loch Lomond to the west; Loch Katrine, Loch Achray and Loch Venacher to the north and the Lake of Menteith on the east
There’s plenty to do in the local area without having to venture far, whether you’re looking to stroll, shop, hike, swing, glide or travel back in time!
Aberfoyle Village
The village itself is just 4 miles along the loch from Forest Hills Resort and worth a trip for its selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. It also boasts one of the most scenic golf courses in Scotland, the Aberfoyle Golf Club, where visitors are most welcome to play.
Continue on to Callander – a lively town that’s great for locally produced gifts, art and artisan produce, including the award-winning McQueen Gin. Its distillery is based in Callander, although if you’ve come to Scotland to discover more about whisky, check out the distillery tours at Deanston and Glengoyne.
Things to do around Aberfoyle
For great walks, bike trails, ranger activities and more, a visit to the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park is essential; go for the scenery, if nothing else. The 50,000-acre forest park extends from the eastern shores of Loch Lomond to the mountains of Strathyre and has a wonderful visitor centre and cafe with stunning views across the Trossachs. Highland Boundary Fault. Whether you’re exploring on foot or by bike, your biggest challenge will be choosing a picnic spot, with the outlook simply breathtaking whichever way you turn.
For a completely different perspective of the countryside Go Ape, just north of Aberfoyle, gives you the opportunity to explore the forest canopy via a treetop rope course and the UK's longest zip line!
