WALKING IN THE TROSSACHS
There are so many hidden gems and breathtaking views to be found when exploring Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park on foot. Queen Elizabeth Forest
Walks are plentiful within the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park and feature iconic views of sparkling lochs, wooded hills and rugged mountains. You can also discover the Forest Park’s magical ambiance and fabulous wildlife by bike, or even on horseback, with trails tailored to suit. The Lodge Forest Visitor Centre is a great place to get your bearings and pick up information and routes.
The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns, and Fairies
For an extra sprinkling of magic, take the Fairy Walk from Aberfolye, a pleasant 2-hour walk which includes lovely woodland, riverside paths and open countryside. You’ll also pass a graveyard – the burial place of the Reverend Kirk, author of “The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns, and Fairies” (1691). Legend has it he was ‘taken’ by the fairies who objected to their identity being revealed in his book. The object of the walk is to reach Doon Hill (the gateway to the fairy world, according to Kirk) where you’ll find a pine tree at the top. It is here, the story goes, that Reverend Kirk’s spirit was encased – at least with a treetop view!
